Hello, my name is Katie and I am a Somatic & Embodiment coach, registered Mental health Nurse & Yoga Teacher.
Prior to transitioning into self-employment, I have worked as a Mental Health Nurse and in Higher Education Institutions (HEI) on undergraduate and post graduate nursing and healthcare courses. I continue to work in HEI on a part time basis as Associate Lecturer.
In my nursing specific roles I have worked on Mental Health wards, Community Mental Health, Crisis Teams, Substance Misuse and Primary Care.
I work with an APTI (Anti-Pathology, Trauma-Informed) approach as I believe this promotes agency, hope and opportunity for individuals, and sees the individual in their power, as opposed to seeing them in their wounding.
Unfortunately, much of the current mental health system pathologises individual experiences and reduces "symptoms" to diagnostic labels with little to no evidence base to support such diagnosis. Therefore, holding a space that aims to "de-pathologise" your experiences and support you to unearth your survival and protective patterns is at the heart of my work.
I am passionate about working with body based approaches, supporting you to build safety and capacity within your nervous system. I am have a special interest in working with women who have experienced trauma (CPTSD/PTSD) and mental health difficulties.
I am deeply interested in how trauma impacts individuals and the collective, and how this can play out in our lives through behaviours, mental health and physical/chronic illness.
I am committed to delving deeper into the world of 'Trauma Recovery' through Somatic & Embodiment Coaching, Trainings, Workshops and Group Offerings, and sharing this with the Sheffield community and further afield.
I have found that recovery from trauma and mental health difficulties is a slow unwinding of patterns & behaviours; coupled with building safety & capacity in the nervous system.
The human experience can be dark and messy, but it can also be joyful and ecstatic. Recovering from trauma can build your capacity to experience and hold ALL of life with the highs and lows and all in between.
Please reach out if you would like to start working with me, or want to chat a bit more before making a decision.
Trauma can diminish our sense of self. Part of healing from trauma is coming home to yourself and honoring your needs, values and spirit.
Trauma can mean that you lose trust in yourself. Part of healing from trauma is learning to trust yourself, your body and your inner knowing with loads of added self-compassion.
Trauma can make it difficult to know what is true for you. Part of healing from trauma is about learning to be honest with yourself, even when it feels difficult.
Got questions? I've got answers.
Yes, absolutely. One of the most important parts to my work is that it accessible. If you are new to yoga or experienced, you will be very welcome to join and adaptations will be given if required.
No, you don't need to bring anything with with as all equipment is provided at the studio.
Yoga for Trauma recovery is a shorter class so as not to overwhelm the nervous system. It also incorporates relational and invitational language and the movement and practices are specifically designed to support you with tools and practices you can use outside of class in your day to day life, to build a resourced nervous system.
Yes, 30 minute connection calls are available to chat with me directly about all of the classes and courses available. Book here or DM me over on Instagram to say Hi.
